Mj has always found the marble run a great activity. It takes fine motor skills and patience to make it work. This morning Michael and Clayton were using it when MJ sat down to join in.
I prompted the boy's to share out the marbles so everyone could play. I sat next to MJ and observed how the boys all interacted. I noticed how MJ looked at the boys looking at the turn taking pattern and when the time was right he took his turn.
Not only was it about learning for MJ but about the other children learning too. The three boys continued on with the marble run, and when MJ wanted all the marbles they were patient and asked for there marbles back giving MJ processing time. The conversations were also great to hear, the boys praised MJ for waiting his turn and congratulated him if his marble was first.
It is clear MJ is starting to understand more about social skills and how to react in different situations. He smiled at appropriate times showing me he acknowledge the boys and there interaction with him.
MJ's sense of belonging and connectiveness in the classroom and in the wider school environment is becoming more evident.
