Sewing

Last term in one of our tech times Renee made a soft teddy. Renee used her fine motor skills by treading a needle and having to thread the wool through the little holes. Once she was 3/4 away round she then stuck on eyes and mouth and then stuffed it. Renee finished stitching it up to take home.

Marble run with friends

Mj has always found the marble run a great activity. It takes fine motor skills and patience to make it work. This morning Michael and Clayton were using it when MJ sat down to join in.
I prompted the boy's to share out the marbles so everyone could play. I sat next to MJ and observed how the boys all interacted. I noticed how MJ looked at the boys looking at the turn taking pattern and when the time was right he took his turn.
Not only was it about learning for MJ but about the other children learning too. The three boys continued on with the marble run, and when MJ wanted all the marbles they were patient and asked for there marbles back giving MJ processing time. The conversations were also great to hear, the boys praised MJ for waiting his turn and congratulated him if his marble was first.

It is clear MJ is starting to understand more about social skills and how to react in different situations. He smiled at appropriate times showing  me he acknowledge the boys and there interaction with him.
MJ's sense of belonging and connectiveness in the classroom and  in the wider school environment is becoming more evident.

Little gardens

Today Renee planted her little gardens.
She started by taking the packaging off then she placed the soil on a saucer.
Renee then added a little bit of water and watched the soil grow. She placed half of the soil in the pot then added the seedlings then added the rest of the soil.
Renee potted 7 plants and will look after them buy watering every morning and watch them grow so she can put them in a big garden.

Nachos at M and M club

All kinds of cooking happens on a Friday at M and M club. This time NACHOS!!!!!
A big favourite of MJ's are the corn chips. He loves the flavour and had no trouble taste testing them. Some of the Room 6 kids joined in the fun, guiding, interacting and of course tasting the end result.
Billy and Renee were the chefs in the kitchen and we very careful around the hot pan. They cooked the mince, stirred in the pasta sauce and waited for it to cook. Billy wasn't to keen on the sour cream.
The nachos were delicious!!

MJ's first Cross country!

Recently we had Toko school cross country. We had a beautiful afternoon and MJ was eager to get involved. Mrs Eagar took you tookMJ to the start line. MJ waited for the start and Mrs Eagar talked to him preparing for the race.
Go, It was time to race. You and Mrs Eagar took of with a burst, running down towards the bottom field following the other children. However you decided to have a stop by Mrs Bright but that's ok because you joined back in as the group starting running back past.

Off to the finish line you ran with Mrs Eagar beside you. You are very good at running MJand it was great to see you being independent.

After a sprint to the finish line it was time to celebrate. I dont know if your heard it but lots of people where chanting your name as you crossed the line.  What a great achievement MJ were all proud of you and your effort.

This year Renee is doing her speech on her Dad. She has 6 pictures to talk about.

This is what she said about each picture.

My Dad paints my nails.
My dad loves to have a beer.
My dad plays golf.
My dad goes to work in his white car and he takes his briefcase with him.
My dad loves to go fishing .
I love my dad.

MJ is learning to write.

MJ as part of being a Room one member and a member of Toko school there are areas of the curriculum we have been working on and firstly it has been wrting. With this in mind I adapted some of the tasks so that you would have positive learning opportunities along with opportunities for success.

I used both resources that all the children use, for example the printed cards and then also a whiteboard for handwriting time.MJ took a while to get into this activity but now as we near the end of term three he hasshown some great progression. When its work time he is eager most of the time to get stuck in. And now he are sitting down taking the lid of the pen and waiting for me to start. As his enthusiasm has grown I have developed a new resource. We have a big handwriting book, that shows how each letter is formed along with small activities that help develop the hand control for each of the letters shapes.

I have added examples of MJ's work to display his success in this area. I start him off hand over hand showing how to create each letter shape. as we progress further in the task I lessen the help he has  and give him the freedom to explore the letter shapes, with me giving verbal direction. MJ has shown great success and the willingness to trust me and give it a go, I know your family are very proud of you and so are all of  us at Toko School.
